Are you an introvert? Here's why you should be speaking up in class.

Updated: Sep 5, 2020

How many times did you sit in class and think.... "Man, I reeeaaalllly don't want to be here." or "Miss, mi cyaa hear nuttn (I can't hear anything)?" Be honest, sometimes you know that you are the problem and not the situation you're in. Introverts are said to be people who would rather just observe and fade into the background but to be honest, nobody remembers the quiet people in school, am I right? Here's why; schools like places of employment are result oriented and there are plenty of people clamouring for attention and accolades on any given day. As much as I would love to tell you that you can "be yourself" in every sense of the word in every environment, that is simply not true. In the world of Academia one has to find unique ways of standing out in order to be able to be get promoted or whatever our desired goals may be.

Here's my take on this whole thing; We are all different and unique in our own special way but do you really want to be ignored in every aspect of your life? The answer is "No" I am sure. The classroom is a microcosm of life itself. It is where most of us begin to integrate with other people from all walks of life. Start small....baby steps......you will be just fine. Start with just one question at a time. I'll tell you a secret too... your teachers are so happy when you participate. Most of us absolutely love to see our students try and fail, rather than never try at all. So the next time you're thinking; "This is such a dumb answer." or "Mi cyaa badda yah man (I cannot be bothered)!" please don't. Give yourself a chance, not to prove others WRONG but to prove yourself and your potential RIGHT.
